AMI has over 1000 members throughout the U.K., all committed to excellence. The members of AMI are the holders of the top National Governing Body (Mountain Leader Training UK) Award.
Membership of AMI is open only to those who have attended Mountain Instructor Award training, or gained the Mountaineering Instructor Award or the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate. MIC and MIA holders have under gone rigorous training and assessment to gain their award. More details here.
We also help and assist those instructors who are at the beginning of their outdoor career by offering support, workshops and Trainee Membership. In this way we are ensuring the continuing high standards of climbing and mountaineering instruction in the future. Trainee membership is open to those who have completed their MIA training course.
It also has good links with Plas Y Brenin, Glenmore Lodge and Tollymore where MIA and MIC courses are run. The Committee is happy to represent members’ views to these and to other bodies, and aims to keep members informed of relevant matters within the training world.
It is also a forum for members to air views and ideas and present articles for discussion and information. AMI strongly encourages members to put forward their ideas and comments for inclusion in the newsletter.
They are a great form of CPD and are run throughout the year in summer and winter environments. Members should contact the Workshop Co-ordinator if they have ideas for topics which they would like to be included.
Many Manufacturers/Distributors and Retailers offer all AMI members excellent discounts on equipment purchases. The details of these arrangements are distributed to members annually in the Trade/Retail Partnership Guide and in the members area of the website.
Local meetings act as a forum for discussion and for local training events. If a regional group does not exist in your area and you would like to form one contact the Chair for information.
This is produced as a booklet for general distribution and on the AMI website. The list is also circulated on request to anyone requiring the services of a qualified instructor. In your area of the AMI website it is possible to update current contact details and make links to your own web site. Download an application form here. Booklet has now been published for 2009/10. Web-only listing is still available.
Details are available from the AMI Office, Email your request here. This service is available to both Full and Trainee Members.
