I live in the Lake District and love teaching coaching and guiding climbing and mountaineering. Whether its long days in the mountains pulling hard on limestone sport crags or doing funky moves on a boulder...Im pretty happy when Im climbing. Its a sport with something for everyone. I can explore new places meet new people push myself physically and mentally and enjoy an activity which is inclusive and inspiring no matter who you are. I aim to still be in the hills and pulling myself up rock climbs when Im 80!?I have lived in Yorkshire the Peak District and Scotland before returning to Cumbria. I started climbing as a teenager  first competing indoors and then learning to explore outdoor climbing and mountaineering all over the UK and abroad. ?I studied for a degree in Outdoor Studies and since then have gained many years working in the outdoor industry with a wide variety of clients activites and locations. I am experienced in youth development work and also currently study part time for a masters degree in Environmental Education. ?I always continue to pursue my own passion for the outdoors in my personal time particularly in rock climbing. I enjoy being outdoors regardless of the grade but some specific highlights have been trad climbing up to E6 sport climbing up to 8a and bouldering V11.I really enjoy teaching and coaching others to develop skills for themselves no matter what level theyre at and love sharing my passion with other people.

I currently work in the capacity as a Director of a small business - Acclimbatize Adventure Activities based near Matlock in the southern Peak District.Prior to setting up Acclimbatize I held positions at Whitehall Centre in Buxton Dukes Barn Centre in Beeley and also with the Derbyshire Youth Service where I established a successful outdoor activity provision for young people in the local area.Additionally I have worked overseas in the capacity as a leader for a British Expedition company as a destination manager for a British Ski tour operator and briefly as an associate lecturer at Derby University.A genuine passion for being outdoors fortunately delivered me to a career pathway that I still feel privileged to be active in. It is a genuine honour to be in a position to impart practical knowledge and experience based wisdom on to candidates embarking on their own journeys. My approach to training and delivery is person focussed - this is achieved by complimenting your existing skill set with some appropriate new ones. My style is quiet but certain practical and efficient.

Having gained Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (formerly MIC) in my younger days I have been a holder of this award for 30 years I am a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and the Mountain Training Association and a former accredited trainer and assessor for Mountain Training England and the Duke of Edinburgh s award.I enjoy using experiential learning for the development of teams and individuals and for those who wish to lead in business or the outdoors and recognise that the outdoors is the ideal environment to help people realise their full potential.I am a technical advisor to companies and able advise and inspect schools colleges and businesses in the maintenance provision and best practice of outdoors adventure in the UK and overseas.Based in South West England and available for mountain guiding teaching and coaching in UK or overseas As time allows I enjoy guiding teams overseas on adventure expeditions and have led trips for adultsand teenagers to East Africa including many ascents of Mt Kilimanjaro; Morocco Peru and Bolivia Nepal and Norway and in the European Alps to: Switzerland Slovenia France and Italy.

Carl has over 30 years of climbing and mountaineering experience and has been working in the outdoor adventure industry for over 20 years. Carl is a full member of AMI and is a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) and is a course director for the Climbing Wall Instructor award. He is currently working towards becoming a Course director for the Rock Climbing Instructor award. Carl is also a member of British Canoeing and is a qualified White-Water Kayak (L4) and Surf (L3T) Coach and assessor. The combined qualifications and experience enables Carl to work competently as a Technical Advisor/Expert across a range of land-based and water-based activities.In addition Carl has a BA (Hons) in Education and holds Diploma qualifications in Sport Science and Sport Psychology and worked as a lecturer in Outdoor Education at Northumberland College for a number of years. When not working in the outdoors Carl can usually be found out and about enjoying his own adventures. Carl has travelled extensively around the world and has been involved in many climbing and kayaking expeditions. These have included a wide range of climbing and mountaineering trips to the Alps Spain Africa the USA and Asia. Carl has organised and led mountaineering expeditions to the Alps the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and the Himalayas. He has also kayaked extensively in the Alps and was a member of an independent 16-day expedition which involved kayaking the length of the Grand Canyon.He is passionate about introducing people to the great outdoors and helping them to develop appropriate skills and knowledge; enabling them to have their own big adventures.Carl s work currently involves a blend of private instructing coaching expedition leadership and Technical Advisor/Expert work through his own company; Mountain Escape: Walk-Scramble-Climb and freelance work for a number of other providers. This includes on-location film safety work for a major Netflix production.
